— Types of Rugs We Clean

Rugs We Clean for Portland Homes

Rugs across Portland homes vary widely in material, age, and usage, from everyday pieces exposed to heavy foot traffic to delicate heirloom rugs requiring careful handling. We tailor each cleaning approach based on fiber type, soil level, and construction to ensure safe, effective, and long-lasting results.

Area Rug Cleaning

Area rugs in living rooms, hallways, and entryways collect dirt, moisture, and debris from daily use, especially during Portland’s wet seasons. Our deep cleaning rug service removes embedded soil, allergens, and stains while maintaining the rug’s structure, color clarity, and overall durability.

Oriental Rug Cleaning

These rugs require a controlled cleaning process to protect natural dyes and intricate weaving. We use low-moisture, fiber-safe hand washing techniques to carefully clean without over-saturating, helping preserve both the structure of rug and long-term value.

Wool Rug Cleaning

They are highly absorbent and can retain dirt, oils, and odors if not cleaned properly. Our process focuses on gentle but thorough cleaning that lifts contaminants while preventing shrinkage, fiber distortion, or color bleeding.

Specialty Rug Cleaning

Specialty rugs, including modern blends and designer pieces, require customized cleaning depending on their material composition. We evaluate each rug individually to determine the safest method for removing buildup while protecting texture and finish.

We also handle delicate and high-value rugs such as silk, antique, Persian, and custom-made pieces. Each rug undergoes a detailed inspection, and a tailored cleaning plan is applied to ensure safe treatment and optimal restoration results.

— Cleaning Process

Our Step-by-Step Rug Cleaning Process

Proper rug cleaning requires more than surface-level treatment. Our detailed cleaning process is designed to safely remove embedded dirt, allergens, odors, and stains while protecting delicate fibers, dyes, and craftsmanship. Every rug is carefully evaluated and cleaned using methods tailored to its specific condition, material, and cleaning needs.

Initial Rug Inspection

The process begins with a detailed inspection where we assess fiber type, construction, color stability, stains, odors, wear patterns, and any existing damage. The evaluation allows us to determine the safest and most effective cleaning method while identifying areas that may require specialized treatment or repairs.

Thorough Dust and Dry Soil Removal

Before washing, we remove deeply embedded dust, grit, pet hair, and dry soil trapped within the rug’s foundation. This critical step prevents abrasive particles from damaging fibers during cleaning and allows for a more effective deep-cleaning process.

Targeted Stain and Odor Pre-Treatment

Spots, pet urine contamination, body oils, and heavily soiled areas are treated with specialized pre-cleaning solutions. It breaks down difficult stains and odors while preparing the rug for a deeper, more thorough cleaning process.

Customized Deep Cleaning Process

Based on the rug’s material and condition, we perform hand washing, immersion cleaning, or specialized low-moisture cleaning methods. In this stage, we safely remove deep-set contaminants, allergens, bacteria, and odors while preserving delicate fibers, dyes, and texture.

Controlled Drying and Premium Fiber Protection

After cleaning, your rug is dried with powerful blowers under controlled conditions to prevent shrinkage, mildew, and fiber distortion while preserving its shape and softness. For added protection, you can choose our premium fiber protection treatment to help repel spills and stains, protect delicate fibers, and extend your rug's lifespan.

Final Grooming and Quality Inspection

Once cleaned and dried, each rug undergoes final grooming, fringe care if needed, and a complete quality inspection. We ensure your rug meets our high standards for cleanliness, appearance, and restoration before it is returned to your home.

Rug Wrapping for Safe Storage

After your rug has been professionally cleaned, we can carefully wrap it for storage or transport. Protective wrapping helps keep your rug clean, dry, and dust-free until you're ready to place it back in your home, making storage safer and more convenient.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can’t say enough good things about this rug cleaning company! I brought them a wool rug that had been through a lot—my dog had been sick, and I truly thought the urine stains and smell were beyond saving. I was ready to throw it out. But Nolan, the owner, worked his magic! The stains are completely unnoticeable now, and the odor is completely gone. It smells fresh and looks beautiful again. I’m so grateful for their professionalism, attention to detail, and the care they put into restoring something I thought was lost. Highly recommend!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were so happy with Portland Rug Cleaning services! Nathan's prices were lower than the other two companies in the Milwaukie-Portland area, and he cleaned and dried our handmade wool rug within 3 days of when we dropped it off. He educated us about how the rug had been made and how he would go about cleaning and drying it, and that helped us to appreciate the value of the cost of that service. We also bought a high-quality waterproof rug pad from him, which he cut to the correct size for our rug. I will definitely take our other wool rugs to him when the time comes to clean them. Very cool building and equipment, we were very happy to give a local business person our business-- thanks for the great experience Nathan!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As the owner, Nolan takes extreme pride in every aspect of cleaning your rugs or furniture. He also brings years of experience about all facets of upholstery and carpet. In 2020 we bought two beautiful, off-white matching couches for our living room and then we added a dog to the household. We thought we were going to have to replace the couches. Thanks to Nolan, the couches look brand new.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Nolan is great! I had a bunch of area rugs that had pet stains and general dirt, and he got them looking brand new! And, the best part is he steam cleaned some of my couches and I don't know if he has different equipment or technique or what, but he did a much better job than couch cleaners I have hired in the past. With other cleaners, the same couch would be weirdly soaked and wrinkled and have a weird chemical smell for days. With Nolan, it didn't have a smell at all, looked super clean and amazingly dried really fast! Will definitely hire him again!!
